Back in April a fellow wool colleague raised his purchase of the Merino Country Face Mask — at the time I wasn’t convinced I needed one. Mixed research, mixed opinions. A week ago, it was only recommended but given the recent spate of panic buying taking place in the western suburbs again it would be good to be on the front foot. Fast forward to lockdown 2.0 and as of last week with the numbers increasing in my local area, I had ordered four. I first searched for Face Masks closer to home only to be disappointed to find nearly most Victorian based companies were out of stock – or waiting on stock to arrive (from where?) and in line with wool as a slow-fashion frame, single use was to be the last option.
Wool socks are a top rated and easily accessible way to utilise the natural capabilities of wool. Take a big step towards slow-fashion by investing in the health of your feet by choosing a natural fibre. Now while I’m partial to the Icebreaker wool socks, I’m opening my eyes to the huge range of Australian made alternatives to invest in.
And to help me with this is fellow Aussie – Adele from Young, New South Wales (which is 372km from Sydney, Australia). Adele grew up on the family farm on the outskirts of Laggan – which is near Crookwell in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales. She now lives in Young NSW, works as a Wool Technical Officer and you can find on Instagram as Adele’s Country Snaps
The STINGER LO is from the EMU Australia’s Platinium Collection, a special collection of genuine sheepskin boots, Made in Australia with Australian wool. In fact, handcrafted in Geelong – Victoria, not very far from where I am – and they’ve been there for 25 years! I look forward to expanding my wool knowledge when I get to see the production of their sheepskin boots and slippers.
A wool mousepad is by far THE easiest way to add natural wool fibre into your home or work office (or go both, like I did). And not just any wool, these products designed and manufactured by HEY-SIGN in Germany and finished by hand use pure new Merino wool, is sourced from Australia and New Zealand and carry the WOOLMARK label.
The JERSEY stationery collection is three pieces, with a stunning aesthetic appeal that brightens when you learn more about them. Complete with the directive to ‘Bring Manufacturing Home’, they are made in Australia , pairing off genuine leather off cuts and Australian and New Zealand wool felt to ‘create a natural product that minimises waste’ and are ‘created for people who value craftsmanship and quality materials’.
The Drysdale Pullover from South Australian label, Iris & Wool is a stunning piece, in a collection that is timelessly sophisticated, striking modern designs with sleek silhouettes.
As much as it would make it easier to buy wool shoes as an octopus, unfortunately I am not one and I’m sorry to report that I have hit a bit of a shoe threshold… […]
Being based in Melbourne, it’s not every day that you get to head across to the west of the country for a wool sale, auctioneer Western Australian wool and then come home with your own […]
It wasn’t by chance that I was running wool-esque keywords through Facebook Marketplace, I actually do it quite often. It is very much in line with wool’s second life function and ability to surpass trends. […]
