PULL THE PLUG on plastic AND WASH WITH WOOL!
These are a serious shower game changer. After I posted up a story on my Instagram (@s_wan926) I got so many curious minds wanting to know more about my latest purchase that I figured it was best to share it all in one spot!
If you’re like me, you have a loofah. Or a loofa/luffa/lufa? I even had more than one. And it’s plastic. Some cheap, plasticy, layered thing that eventually detaches and turns into a useless length of plastic webbing. Plastic. SO of course WOOL has an answer to that!
It’s a self-soaping scrubbie, soap and washcloth as one– practical AND natural!
The wool around the bar has benefits that include:
- Gently exfoliating
- Soap lasts longer, foams up better
- Less slippery, easier to hold
- Naturally anti-fungal and anti-bacterial
- Eco friendly – Compostable when the soap is used up
- OR a cool little felted piece to rework into something creative…
I came across ‘Drenched, Dyed and Dreaded’ on Facebook of all places! Based out of Murtoa (Victoria) they’re available at $6 each. The soaps are made using varying essential oils then felted using Merino or alpaca from local artisans…
I got a mix of cubes and disks (5 at $34 delivered) mainly ginger and lemon – which is delightful. (I was told I won’t get the true scent until wet, because they’ve taken on each other’s smells when packed together but I haven’t been able to wait that long….)
First soak in warm water then move between your hands to develop lather – I just held it under the showerhead for a few seconds… I may have gotten a bit foam happy and moved the felt enough to see the bar, but it’s easy to rework it back. After the shower, I just gave the bar a squeeze to take out the excess moisture and have left it to dry. It’s better than my cheap plastic loofa, which are now earmarked for some use in the shed…
If you have stumbled across our website for the first time, and you aren’t sure what we do, then please allow us to introduce ourselves and to welcome you here to Wool for Every Day. Wool for Every Day is a wool education and wool product curation-review platform, the passion project of a wool industry professional. Simply put, we are on a mission to highlight products made from wool and that wool is the natural fibre for today’s world, every day. Please support this venture by using links directly from our website – at no cost to you, some purchases may result in a small commission that goes toward funding this project. Every little bit helps!
I’ve also been told felted wool helps the soap dry between uses so is great for travelling – will give it a go!
The verdict: SUPER TRIPLE TICK alternative to a loofah. And — WOOL!
I’d love to learn how to make these, but I’ve got crocheting-programming-photography-blogging that still need me to give them more attention. Below are a number of makers and a general gauge at the time of writing. Please do your own enquiries into shipping and be sure to watch for wool felted soaps at local markets!
